Silent disco held for first graders at BPES

First graders at Broadalbin-Perth Elementary School could recently be found dancing in the BPES small gym. The catch? There was no music to be heard. Students were attending a silent disco, where each of them had full control of the volume and the tunes they listened to.

For the disco, each student was given a pair of headphones that connected to two music channels. Students were able to select which channel they wanted to listen to, change the volume to their liking, and dance in the comfort of the BPES small gym. The dance was designed to be inclusive, since loud noise, bright lights, and lots of motion can sometimes be overwhelming to small children, according to first-grade teacher Stephanie Klug.

The teachers reported that the disco was the perfect way to kick off winter break, as students enjoyed trying out a new dance experience.
