Spooner, Hulbert receive January MVP Awards

Congratulations to the January recipients of the Most Valuable Patriot (MVP) award, bus driver Frank Spooner and high school math teacher Lynsey Hulbert!

Frank Spooner, bus driver

Frank Spooner, a B-P graduate, has worked at his alma mater for five years. Along with being a bus driver, Spooner helped start the high school's competitive trapshooting team and is its head coach.

"Frank goes above and beyond to make sure the students are respectful to each other," his nomination read. "He genuinely cares about each and every student. My grandson is on his bus, and if there are any issues, Frank contacts me to discuss, but this year my grandson hasn’t had any issues on the bus! Frank goes out of his way to praise the kids when he sees them helping other kids. Frank is an MVP!"

Spooner said the nomination means a lot to him.

“I really love working with the kids,"  he said. "I had a great bus driver in this school district, and that had a lasting impact on my life. I try to give that back, and I feel that with us being the first people kids see in the morning, it sets the tone a lot. Knowing that I see smiles when I pick kids up in the morning, knowing I started their day off really well – or I see them in a bad mood, and one of the first things they want to do is sit up front and talk with me, I can usually turn that mood around by the time we get to school."

Lynsey Hulbert, high school math teacher

Lynsey Hulbert is in her 24th year as a teacher at Broadalbin-Perth. In addition to teaching high school math, Hulbert also advises Math League alongside Rachel Shrome and is a Class of 2029 adviser along with Julee Hart.

“My son has been struggling in geometry, and she takes so much time during his learning labs to work with him," Hulbert's MVP nomination read. "She has written notes, celebrated his successes, and helped him feel comfortable asking for help. I am grateful for her contribution to him being a more successful student.”

Hulbert said her nomination truly touched her.

“Knowing that my time and support helped a student gain confidence and find success means everything to me," she said. "I am grateful to work in a district that prioritizes learning, relationships, and meeting students where they are. Helping students feel comfortable asking for help and celebrating their progress, no matter how small, is why I love working with the kids at B-P. Math may not be everyone’s thing, but my goal is to make it a little less intimidating and a lot more approachable for every student."

Each month, two district employees are recognized through Broadalbin-Perth's MVP program. Each winner receives a B-P Yeti mug. Nominations can come from any member of the school community and all nominations should be submitted online. The deadline to nominate a B-P employee for the next MVP award is Monday, Feb. 2.
