Students from BPHS FBLA advance to states

Four students from Broadalbin-Perth Jr./Sr. High School were invited to participate in the Future Business Leaders of America Spring District Meeting at Bryant & Stratton College on Friday, Feb. 9. Three students from BPHS placed at the meeting and will compete at the State Leadership Conference in Rochester April 10-12.

The following BPHS students will be attending the State Leadership Conference based on their performance during the Spring District Meeting:
Alex Vogel (11th grade) - 1st place in Public Speaking
Logan Haight (10th grade) - 3rd place in Introduction to Public Speaking
Jay Mannato (10th grade) - 3rd place in Client Services

Each student will be presented with a trophy at the state conference, which will be engraved with their name on it.

During the FBLA Spring District Meeting, the four students in attendance from BPHS also competed in a written event. Jay Mannato and Evelynn Magagnos took the Parliamentary Procedure exam, while Alex Vogel and Logan Haight took the Future Business Leader exam. The results of these written events will be published in the coming week and the winners will also advance to states.

According to BPHS business teacher and FBLA advisor Candic Gugliemelli, the FBLA Spring District Meeting serves as an excellent learning opportunity. Students from BPHS were given the chance to meet and mingle with students from other neighboring districts, including Cobleskill-Richmondville, Sharon Springs, Hamilton Fulton Montgomery BOCES P-Tech, and Mechanicville. The meeting also provided students with the chance to put their business skills to use in real-life simulations.

“It was a great experience for the kids,” Gugliemelli said. “They are energized for states!”
