Patriot Academy students participate in “freeze-tag” tournament

Patriot Academy is a new program at Broadalbin-Perth Jr./Sr. High School that features cutting edge teaching and learning techniques focused on hands-on learning. Students gain real-world experience through trial-and-error-based lessons and collaborating in teams.

For the past few weeks, ninth-graders in Patriot Academy have been working to build, program, and pilot “battlebot”-style robots. On Tuesday, Dec. 13, the students pitted their robots against each other in a tournament-style competition of freeze tag, aiming to have their robots tap a sensor on the back of their opponents’ robots to score points. Freddie Brown, Colton Montgomery, and Ethan Watson were crowned champions after three rounds of competition.
