The B-P Summer Drama Program will present “Seussical Jr.” for a one-night show on Friday, Aug. 17 in the Margaret Robin Blowers Auditorium at the high school. The curtain rises at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5 each and available at the door. There is free admission for children ages three and younger.

Incoming eighth grader Lillian Faulkner is playing the lead role of Cat in the Hat. It’s an opportunity that brings her time with the summer drama program full circle. When she first joined the program in first grade, they presented the same musical.

“In first grade, I played the role of ‘Monkey,’ and now I’m the lead,” she said. “It’s so exciting. I think theater is one of the best things someone can do for their confidence. I used to be so shy, and I’ve made so many friends through this program.”

Director Michael Ott said the program’s success is due in part to its high school volunteers, including student directors Grace Miller, Kassy Cassella, Jordan Perna, Lexi Rodriguez, Michaela Staie and Katie Cromer, with Madison Fariello, Eliana Fraser and Amber Vosburgh serving as stage crew.

Many of these volunteers are high school drama club members who got their start in the summer drama program, which is open to students in grades 2-9.

“The group’s success is driven by the students’ dedication and ability to work together as a team,” Ott said.
