Tickets are on sale now for Broadalbin-Perth’s community production of “The Sound of Music.” Tickets may be purchased online for $7 plus fees, or at the door for $9 each. Performances are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5; 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6; and 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7. All performances will take place in the Margaret Robin Blowers Auditorium at B-P Jr./Sr. High School, 100 Bridge Street, Broadalbin.
B-P’s summer production is a true community collaboration, featuring students, district employees, and recent graduates under the direction of B-P Elementary Drama Club director Jen Szumowski.
“The Sound of Music” is the final collaboration between Broadway legends Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, and was based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp. The beloved musical has earned five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The story follows Maria, who is played in the B-P production by Kate Szumowski ’22, who serves as governess to the seven children of Captain von Trapp as Nazi forces take hold of Austria. The show features such songs as “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do Re Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” and the title number, “The Sound of Music.”
