The Learning Community at Broadalbin-Perth is one of 562 high-achieving and high-progress schools identified as a 2018-19 Recognition School, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) announced on Tuesday, June 18. TLC, which serves 434 students in pre-K through grade 2, is the only school in the HFM BOCES region and is one of just 280 public schools outside of New York City to receive the honor.
Under New York’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Plan, Recognition Schools are those that have high academic achievement, student growth and graduation rate, and have made progress during the 2017-18 school year. As a 2018-19 Recognition School, TLC will receive a certificate of recognition from NYSED Commissioner MaryEllen Elia.
“This honor does not come easily and is only made possible through a commitment to educating the whole child, studying and using data to drive instruction, and appreciating the subtle but important values that each and every educator at TLC possesses,” said Superintendent of Schools Stephen Tomlinson. “Huge congratulations are due to Principal Brad Strait and his wonderful staff.”
The complete Recognition Schools list is available on the State Education Department website. Further details on the Recognition School identification methodology can be found on the Department’s ESSA Accountability Designations website.
